Thoughts on Dylan as in (Bob)

Ok so I will admit that I have never understood nor agreed with all of the Bob Dylan fans out there. To me his voice sounds like the equivalent of scratching a chalkboard!

The gravel sounding tone of his voice is not only annoying but I just never got how he got famous?

That was until last year when I was watching the show Parenthood (which has amazing song selection) that plays during the show. On this particular night that I was watching I heard a song being sung by Adele titled "Make you feel my love".

I downloaded the song and have listened to it over and over and over MANY TIMES!
I looked up the song on the internet because I wanted to see who had written it. Upon investigation I discovered the song that I couldn't stop listening to had been written by none other than Bob Dylan.

Make You Feel My Love", also known as "To Make You Feel My Love" or "Just to Make You Feel My Love", is a song written and recorded by Bob Dylan. It appeared on his 1997 album Time Out of Mind. Billy Joel, Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Bryan Ferry and Adele have had success with the song.

Song Lyrics

Make you feel my love

When the rain
Is blowing in your face
And the whole world
Is on your case
I could offer you
A warm embrace
To make you feel my love

When the evening shadows
And the stars appear
And there is no - one there
To dry your tears
I could hold you
For a million years
To make you feel my love

I know you
Haven't made
Your mind up yet
But I would never
Do you wrong
I've known it
From the moment
That we met
No doubt in my mind
Where you belong
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/a/adele/make_you_feel_my_love.html ]
I'd go hungry
I'd go black and blue
I'd go crawling
Down the avenue
No, there's nothing
That I wouldn't do
To make you feel my love

The storms are raging
On the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret
Though winds of change
Are blowing wild and free
You ain't seen nothing
Like me yet

I could make you happy
Make your dreams come true
Nothing that I wouldn't do
Go to the ends
Of the Earth for you
To make you feel my love, To make you feel my love

Here's a performance by Adele -

So in conclusion I get it now, Bob is an amazing songwriter but I still prefer to hear other people sing his songs.

The Best TV show you may not be watching.....

I can't say enough good things about the show Parenthood! The writing, the actors, the character development, the music and I could go on and on.

Maybe it's no surprise that the show is so good when you realize that Ron Howard is at the Executive Producing helm.

Perhaps the best thing I can say about the show is Watch it!

Parenthood is on Tuesday nights 8pm/7pm Central time.

Facebook....

So I have been on Facebook for over a year now (actually close to 3 years). I remember spending hours on there and adding friends and updating my status. I couldn't wait to see what people were up to or add that one friend from grade school that you used to ride bikes with.

I loved letting everyone know that I was at Starbucks or that I was sitting at the Toyota dealership waiting for the oil to be changed. I just got my new iPhone, I became a father or celebrated another anniversary.

The list goes on and on.......

I will admit that Facebook has kind of lost it's luster to me and it's not that I don't wonder what people are up to or enjoy seeing my old friends and their families.

I guess somewhere along the way I realized that status updates and new profile pics can't take the place of sitting with a friend in person and having a cup of coffee or enjoying a night out at a restaurant having a good discussion.

I know Mark Zuckerberg wants us all to share and socialize on his network but it really can't take the place of a real life friend.

Since I moved to Houston I haven't really made any good friends. I have met people and would call them casual friends or acquantences but nothing solid like some of the friends I had when I was living in Oklahoma.

I have decided therefore to limit my Facebook time and work harder at making real friends that I can actually get status updates from in person.

I took the first step today by attending a new Church - Bayou City Fellowship. It's a brand new church that has just started up and I look forward to getting involved and making new friends. It's so much harder to make friends as an adult than it was when I was a kid.

I remember playing dodgeball or foursquare on the playground and then going inside to class with my new "friends" It was that easy! Come over and play Nintendo after school and now we are best friends... YES IT WAS THAT EASY!

When you become an adult something happens and you are afraid you don't have the right job or you don't drive the right car or maybe you feel like you haven't accomplished enough to be friends with this person or that person. You put up your defenses and are afraid to be you.

Currently Reading....

In 2011 one of my goals is to read more and watch less TV. This is my first book of 2011 and so far it is AWESOME! I am little biased because it is authored by my pastor but I would still highly recommend it to you or anyone reading this!

Currently RE-reading for small group

So for our small group we chose to read the Ragamuffin Gospel. This is probably my third or fourth time reading it but I am always amazed at how Brennan Manning paints a picture of God's grace through his writing.
This book easily ranks in my top 5 books of all time! In fact I would put it right under the bible as my next favorite book on grace. Other than reading parables that Christ spoke in the New Testament on grace I would say this is next in understanding God's Grace towards us.
